It's that time of year again: the 2013 AIA National Convention is gearing up to provide architects with the latest technological, conceptual and design innovations over the course of a three-day conference in Denver, Colorado. This year's theme: Building Leaders, is an opportunity for architects to see leading achievements in the profession as well as build upon their own knowledge.
Registration is now open as exhibitors and speakers prepare to discuss the architecture profession in today's context. The convention is a chance for members of to convene and discuss the present critical issues and anticipate the future of architecture through discussions, conferences, exhibits, tours, and seminars. The Convention will also host several award receptions that celebrate the achievements such as Best in Housing and Technology in Architecture.
The itinerary is packed with lectures that cover a range of topics and address issues that affect architects today. From broad topics on sustainability to specific discussions about model cities, the convention hopes to enlighten attendees and encourage an open discourse about state of architecture in our present condition.
To many, the AIA serves as a representation of the architecture profession, pooling respected architects and designers to provide a forum for observation and discussion. Workshops and tours provide hands-on opportunities to view distinct design achievements. This is also a great opportunity for architects to earn continuing education units and engage new fields of interest.
This year's three keynote speakers include: TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie, Co-Founder for Architecture for Humanity Cameron Sinclair, and former Secretary of State General Colin Powell. Blake Mycoskie will discuss "Conscious Capitalism and the Future of Business", Cameron Sinclair lecture will be "Design Like You Give a Damn"; and Gen. Colin Powell will speak about "Leadership: Taking Charge". The diversity of the speakers' profession and their lectures should prove an interesting framing for the "Building Leaders" Conference this June. Visit http://convention.aia.org for more details.
